In this video, I’m going to show you the best camera for recording speeches…if you want to DIY. If you’re serious about speaking, I recommend that you hire a professional to record you every once in a while. Or you can capture a lot of your speaking gigs by yourself and then have a professional video editor mash it all together into an impressive speaking reel.
Can I just use my phone?
Yes, you can. But in my experience, I couldn’t figure out how to get a decent speaking video with my iPhone. It was either too far away, or too pixelated once I hit zoom. I’ve also tried using a DSLR, but it usually has a 12 t0 30-minute limit so it would cut off in the middle of my speech.
Best Camera for Recording Speeches
Enter the Canon VIXIA HF R800. This is a camera that you can set up on a tripod at the back of the room and then zoom in to capture a closeup if you’re talking at a podium. Or you can zoom out and show the crowd size.
If you have someone helping you record, that person can compose a bunch of different shots during one speech.
Some features of the Canon VIXIA HF R800
- The R800 uses an SD card to store video, and is slightly cheaper than the R80 which has some built-in memory.
- It has a touch screen display that pivots out so you can see and frame yourself while the camera is running.
- It also has an external microphone jack.
- MP4 1080/60p Recording = great video quality.
